We recently heard that Sony would be updating its two new tablets, the Sony Tablet S and the Sony Tablet P, to the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
And now Sony has confirmed to the guys over at The Verge that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Tablet P and Tablet S will be released this Spring.
Expected Features and Improvements
Sony didn’t give a specific launch date for the Ice Cream Sandwich update for both devices, although the guys from The Verge noted that it should roll out at the same time as Android 4.0 for Sony’s new Xperia smartphone range, which includes the Sony Xperia S. The update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to bring a host of new features and improvements to the Sony Tablet S and Tablet P. These enhancements include a revamped user interface, improved multitasking capabilities, and better overall performance. Users can also look forward to new functionalities such as face unlock, data usage monitoring, and enhanced app management.
Internal Testing and Rollout Plans
Sony is apparently testing out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on both devices internally, and we should see the update available sometime within the next couple of months. This internal testing phase is crucial to ensure that the update runs smoothly on both the Tablet S and Tablet P, minimizing any potential bugs or issues that could affect user experience. The rollout of the update will likely be staggered, with some regions receiving it earlier than others. This phased approach helps Sony manage the distribution process more effectively and address any unforeseen issues promptly.
The Sony Tablet S, with its 9.4-inch display and unique wedge-shaped design, has been well-received for its ergonomic comfort and performance. On the other hand, the Sony Tablet P stands out with its dual-screen clamshell design, offering a different kind of versatility and portability. Both devices will benefit significantly from the Ice Cream Sandwich update, making them more competitive in the ever-evolving tablet market.
