Information has emerged that suggests Sony’s new S1 and S2 Android Honeycomb tablets will now be arriving in September 2011. Sony originally said that their new Android-based tablets would be arriving in the Autumn when they unveiled their new tablet offering earlier this year.
It’s also thought that Sony will start taking pre-orders for their new tablet devices in August directly from their website, Sony Direct.
The information regarding the new launch date was sent to the Engadget team in the form of a Sony memo, but unfortunately, the memo didn’t include a lot of new information about the new Sony tablet devices.
Features and Specifications
The Sony S1 and S2 tablets are expected to bring a range of innovative features to the market. The S1 tablet is designed with a 9.4-inch display, making it ideal for media consumption and web browsing. It is also rumored to include a Tegra 2 processor, which should provide robust performance for multitasking and gaming. The S2, on the other hand, is a dual-screen tablet with two 5.5-inch displays that can be folded, offering a unique form factor that could appeal to users looking for versatility and portability.
Both tablets will run on Android Honeycomb, an operating system specifically optimized for tablets, providing a smooth and intuitive user experience. Additionally, they are expected to support Wi-Fi and 3G/4G connectivity, ensuring that users can stay connected on the go. The tablets will also likely feature front and rear cameras, making them suitable for video calls and photography.
Market Impact and Competition
Sony’s entry into the tablet market with the S1 and S2 comes at a time when competition is fierce. Major players like Apple, Samsung, and Motorola have already established a strong presence with their respective iPad, Galaxy Tab, and Xoom tablets. Sony’s unique design and feature set could help differentiate its products in a crowded market. For instance, the dual-screen design of the S2 could attract users who are looking for a device that offers more than the traditional single-screen experience.
Moreover, Sony’s reputation for high-quality electronics could give it an edge. The company has a long history of producing reliable and innovative products, and consumers may be more inclined to trust a Sony tablet over lesser-known brands. Additionally, the integration of Sony’s entertainment services, such as PlayStation and Sony Entertainment Network, could provide added value to users, making the S1 and S2 more appealing.
