Sony recently announced a list of devices that would be getting the Android Marshmallow update, and now we have some information on some other devices.
It looks like some of Sony’s Xperia handsets will skip the Android Lollipop update altogether and will go straight from Android 5.0 to Android 6.0.
Devices Receiving the Update
The devices that are currently running Android 5.0 which will apparently be going straight to Android Marshmallow include the Sony Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 tablet, the Xperia C4, C5 Ultra, M4 Aqua, M5, and more. This is an interesting move by Sony, as it means users of these devices will benefit from the latest features and improvements without having to go through the incremental updates of Android 5.1 or 5.1.1.
Sony’s mobile support pages are now showing a number of handsets with Android 5.0 that will be going straight to Android 6.0. This includes popular models like the Xperia Z3+, which has been praised for its sleek design and powerful performance, and the Xperia Z4 tablet, known for its impressive display and battery life. The mid-range models such as the Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra, which are favored for their camera capabilities, will also be part of this update.
Benefits of Android Marshmallow
Android Marshmallow brings a host of new features and improvements over its predecessors. One of the most notable features is the new app permissions model, which gives users more control over the data and functions that apps can access. This means enhanced privacy and security for users.
Another significant improvement is the Doze mode, which helps to extend battery life by putting the device into a deeper sleep state when it is not being used. This can be particularly beneficial for devices like the Xperia Z4 tablet, which is often used for media consumption and can benefit from longer battery life.
Additionally, Android Marshmallow introduces Google Now on Tap, a feature that provides contextual information and actions based on the content currently displayed on the screen. This can make it easier for users to find information and perform tasks without having to leave the app they are currently using.
As yet, there are no details on when these devices will get the Android 6.0 update. Sony recently said that the updates would start to roll out shortly, although did not give any specific dates. This has left many users eagerly awaiting the update, as they look forward to the new features and improvements that Android Marshmallow will bring.
Sony has a history of providing timely updates to its devices, and it is expected that the rollout will be completed in a phased manner. This means that some devices may receive the update sooner than others, depending on factors such as region and carrier.
As soon as we get some more information on when Android 6.0 is coming for the individual devices, we will let you guys know. In the meantime, users can check Sony’s mobile support pages for the latest information on the update status for their specific device.
