Makers, developers and hobbyists that enjoy building projects using the awesome Raspberry Pi single board mini PC, might be interested in a new accessory board that has been unveiled by Element 14 this week in the form of the SHIM RTC.
The SHIM RTC expansion board provides the Raspberry Pi mini PC with a real-time clock that is supported by all three Raspberry Pi models A, B and B+ and it does’t use up valuable GPIO headers.
The new SHIM RTC has been designed to fit inside the Raspberry Pi footprint and provide users with a real-time clock for time stamping applications and projects. The board is powered by a 3V battery that is capable of running for two years. Element 14 explains a little more;
“It will fit under most add-on boards. The Shim adapter is a Raspberry Pi GPIO extender, making it easy to connect additional add-on accessories, work with breadboards, attach wires or access to pin testing all at the same time.
“With one set of holes placed over the Raspberry Pi headers the other set of holes on the Shim adapter can accommodate header pins and wires to support the user’s application while not covering up the header pins for additional add on boards.”
