Samsung has announced that it has started mass production of its new 2nd-Generation 10nm-Class, 16Gb LPDDR4X Mobile DRAM.
This new RAM is designed to use less power and be more efficient than the current RAM used in smartphones at the moment.
Enhanced Efficiency and Performance
The 2nd-Generation 10nm-Class, 16Gb LPDDR4X Mobile DRAM is a significant advancement in mobile memory technology. This new RAM is designed to use less power and be more efficient than the current RAM used in smartphones at the moment. By reducing power consumption, this new DRAM will help extend battery life in mobile devices, which is a critical factor for users who rely heavily on their smartphones throughout the day. Additionally, the enhanced efficiency means that devices can perform more tasks simultaneously without experiencing lag or slowdowns, providing a smoother and more responsive user experience.
“The advent of 10nm-class mobile DRAM will enable significantly enhanced solutions for next-generation, flagship mobile devices that should first hit the market late this year or the first part of 2019.” said Sewon Chun, senior vice president of Memory Sales & Marketing at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to grow our premium DRAM lineup to lead the ‘high-performance, high capacity, and low power’ memory segment to meet the market demand and strengthen our business competitiveness.”
Strategic Expansion and Market Impact
Samsung will be expanding its premium DRAM lineup that is based on the 1y-nm process by more than 70 percent. This initiative began with mass producing the first 10nm-class 8Gb DDR4 server DRAM last November and continues with this 16Gb LPDDR4X mobile memory chip only eight months later. This strategic expansion is not just about increasing production but also about meeting the growing demand for high-performance, high-capacity, and low-power memory solutions in the market. As mobile devices become more advanced, the need for more efficient and powerful memory solutions becomes increasingly important.
The introduction of the 16Gb LPDDR4X Mobile DRAM is expected to have a significant impact on the market. It will enable manufacturers to create more powerful and efficient devices, which will, in turn, drive consumer demand. For example, flagship smartphones equipped with this new DRAM will be able to handle more complex applications and multitasking scenarios, providing users with a superior experience. Additionally, the reduced power consumption will be a key selling point for consumers who are looking for devices with longer battery life.

Furthermore, the advancements in DRAM technology are not limited to mobile devices. The same principles of high performance, high capacity, and low power consumption can be applied to other areas such as servers, laptops, and even emerging technologies like autonomous vehicles and IoT devices. Samsung’s commitment to innovation in memory technology positions the company as a leader in the industry, capable of driving future advancements and setting new standards.
