There were rumors circulating all over the internet that Amazon will offer a smartphone for free. However, it seems that’s incorrect. A spokesman from Amazon denied all the rumors about a smartphone launch this year, which will be offered for free.
The news surfaced from Jessica Lessin who initially reported that the retail giant is working on a smartphone that will be free for consumers. Now, the folks at Amazon commented on this rumor and told them they will not launch a smartphone this year, and even if they do launch it in the future, it would not be free.
A spokesman for Amazon.com Inc. said Sunday the online retail giant won’t launch a smartphone this year, and that if it did launch one in the future, it “would not be free.”
Amazon smartphone is not the thing we should be excited about now. The retail giant is expected to launch their upgraded Kindle tablet lineup soon with one 8.9-inch high-end tablet and two 7-inch tablets, later this year. We’ve seen some leaked specifications of the tablets as well.
