Instructables user “appleman123987” has created a great little Raspberry Pi portable system that includes a 3.5 inch screen using a modified car backup monitor, that has been removed from its casing.
The system is not touchscreen so will required additional keyboard and mouse to control but provides a great portable solution for those looking to take their Raspberry Pi system with them and can be powered by a portable USB battery pack of your choice.
The case has been 3D printed and the drawings are available to download from the Thingyverse website with instructions on how to build the portable Raspberry Pi system available from the Instructables site. Its creator explains :
“This does Not have a touchscreen or battery because it is supposed to be used with a usb battery. If you would like a touchscreen just use an LCD fron adafruit.
Take all of the screws off of the backup monitor. Then remove the front and back of the case and you should be left with the display and driver board. There should be a connector on the board that goes to the composite input. On the connector the yellow wire is signal and the black is ground. So using that, cut the cable in half.”
