As well as announcing their new Tegra 4 processor for smartphones and tablets, NVIDIA has announced Project Shield, which is a gaming portable device for open platforms, powered by the new NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor.
Project Shield is a pure Android device that will let you play both Android and PC games. Android games can be downloaded from Google Play, while PC games can be streamed from your PC with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX GPU, providing access to game titles from the STEAM game library. This dual capability makes Project Shield a versatile gaming device, catering to both mobile and hardcore PC gamers.
Innovative Gaming Experience
Project Shield offers an innovative gaming experience by combining the power of the Tegra 4 processor with the flexibility of Android and PC gaming. The Tegra 4 processor, known for its high performance and energy efficiency, ensures smooth gameplay and stunning graphics. This makes Project Shield not just a portable gaming device but a powerful one that can handle demanding games with ease.
The device features a 5-inch 720p retinal multi-touch display, which provides crisp and vibrant visuals. The built-in speakers offer rich sound quality, enhancing the overall gaming experience. Additionally, Project Shield includes a console-grade controller, which is essential for serious gamers who prefer tactile feedback and precision over touch controls.
Streaming and Connectivity
One of the standout features of Project Shield is its ability to stream PC games. By leveraging the power of an NVIDIA GeForce GTX GPU, users can stream their favorite PC games directly to the device. This means you can enjoy high-quality PC gaming on a portable device without being tethered to your desktop. The integration with STEAM allows gamers to access a vast library of games, ensuring that there is always something new to play.
Moreover, Project Shield supports cloud gaming services, which means you can play games stored in the cloud, further expanding your gaming options. This feature is particularly useful for gamers who want to play high-end games without worrying about storage limitations.
“Project SHIELD was created by NVIDIA engineers who love to game and imagined a new way to play,” said Jen-Hsun Huang, co-founder and chief executive officer at NVIDIA. “We were inspired by a vision that the rise of mobile and cloud technologies will free us from our boxes, letting us game anywhere, on any screen. We imagined a device that would do for games what the iPod and Kindle have done for music and books, letting us play in a cool new way. We hope other gamers love SHIELD as much as we do.”
Project Shield also includes a range of connectivity options, such as HDMI output, USB, and microSD slots, making it easy to connect to other devices and expand storage. The HDMI output allows you to connect Project Shield to a larger screen, turning it into a home console for an even more immersive gaming experience.
