Netflix has today released a new teaser trailer for its upcoming science fiction series Another Life, which will star Katee Sackhoff as astronaut Niko Breckenridge. Sackhoff has previously starred in Battlestar Galactica and Longmire and now embarks on an interstellar mission to find the origin of a huge alien artifact which has mysteriously landed on Earth.
“When a mysterious alien Artifact lands on Earth, Commander Niko Breckinridge (Katee Sackhoff) has to lead humanity’s first interstellar mission to its planet of origin, while her husband (Justin Chatwin) tries to make first contact with the artifact back on Earth. Another Life explores the miracle of life, how precious life is in a universe mostly empty of it, and the lengths we will go to protect the ones we love.”
The Plot and Themes of Another Life
The series delves deep into the complexities of space exploration and the human condition. As Commander Niko Breckinridge leads her crew on a perilous journey across the cosmos, they encounter numerous challenges that test their resolve, unity, and humanity. The show doesn’t just focus on the sci-fi elements but also explores the emotional and psychological toll of space travel. The relationship between Niko and her husband, who remains on Earth, adds a layer of emotional depth and tension to the narrative. Their struggle to maintain their connection despite the vast distance between them serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who venture into the unknown.
Cast and Characters
In addition to Katee Sackhoff and Justin Chatwin, the series boasts a talented ensemble cast. Samuel Anderson plays William, the ship’s AI, who provides both assistance and occasional conflict for the crew. Elizabeth Ludlow portrays Cas Isakovic, Niko’s second-in-command, whose loyalty and skills are crucial to the mission’s success. The diverse cast brings a range of perspectives and backgrounds, enriching the story and making the characters’ interactions more engaging.
The alien artifact itself is a character of sorts, shrouded in mystery and driving much of the plot. Its presence on Earth raises questions about humanity’s place in the universe and the potential for other intelligent life forms. The artifact’s enigmatic nature keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, eager to uncover its secrets.
Another Life will premiere as a 10-episode series and will be available to watch on the Netflix streaming service from July 25th, 2019 onwards. Each episode promises to be a blend of thrilling space adventure and deep, thought-provoking drama, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.
The series is created by Aaron Martin, known for his work on Slasher and Degrassi: The Next Generation. His vision for Another Life combines elements of classic space operas with contemporary storytelling techniques, resulting in a fresh take on the genre. The show’s production values are high, with impressive special effects and detailed set designs that bring the vastness of space to life.
