LaCie has today started shipping their new LaCie 2big Thunderbolt storage solutions with the 4TB LaCie costing $650, and the larger 6TB costing a hefty $800. Originally announced during CES 2012 back in January, the LaCie 2big offer speeds up to 327MB/s, together with hot-swappable disks, RAID security, and of course the ability to daisy chain them together using the new Thunderbolt ports.
To offer a comparison the LaCie 2big offers speeds up to three times faster than FireWire 800, and daisy chaining multiple 2bigs can can provide you with up to 676MB/s. Meaning 1TB of data – equivalent to nearly 235,000 MP3’s, 750 iTunes movies, or more than 450,000 photos, can be transferred in less than an hour.
The LaCie 2big Thunderbolt storage solutions feature two Thunderbolt ports and will sport dual cooling methods, one of which will be achieved through its heat-dispersing aluminium shell, and the other using a fan.
The LaCie 2big Thunderbolt Series is now available to purchase at the LaCie Online Store and LaCie Storage Partners, worldwide, and an 8Tb version is currently being developed by LaCie and will be available soon they say.
