The US version of HTC’s ChaCha Facebook phone has finally gone on sale. The HTC Status is now available for $50 from AT&T, and you will also have to sign up to a new two-year contract with AT&T.
The HTC Status is one of the first smartphones to come with a dedicated Facebook function, and a wide range of Facebook functions integrated into the device. It features a 2.6-inch touch screen display with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, and it comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The HTC Status is powered by an 800Hz processor, and there is also a VGA camera up front for video chat and a 5-megapixel camera on the back for snapping photos and recording video.
Key Features of the HTC Status
One of the standout features of the HTC Status is its dedicated Facebook button, which allows users to instantly share updates, photos, and videos on their Facebook profile. This button is strategically placed for easy access, making social media interaction seamless and more integrated into the daily use of the phone.
The device also includes a full QWERTY keyboard, which is a rarity in today’s smartphone market dominated by touch screens. This keyboard is particularly useful for users who prefer physical keys for typing out messages and emails. The combination of a touch screen and a physical keyboard offers a versatile user experience.
Performance and Usability
Despite its modest 800Hz processor, the HTC Status performs adequately for everyday tasks such as browsing the web, checking emails, and using social media apps. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system provides a smooth user experience, although it is worth noting that this version of Android is quite dated compared to the latest releases.
The 2.6-inch display, while small by modern standards, is bright and clear, making it suitable for viewing photos and videos. However, the resolution of 480 x 320 pixels may not provide the sharpest image quality, especially when compared to higher-resolution screens available on other smartphones.
The front VGA camera is sufficient for video chats, but don’t expect high-definition quality. The rear 5-megapixel camera, on the other hand, is quite capable of taking decent photos and videos, making it a good option for casual photography.

The HTC Status is a unique smartphone that caters specifically to social media enthusiasts. Its dedicated Facebook button and integrated Facebook functions make it an attractive option for users who are heavily invested in the social media platform. While its hardware specifications may not be cutting-edge, the combination of a touch screen and a physical keyboard offers a versatile and user-friendly experience. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly smartphone with a strong emphasis on social media, the HTC Status is worth considering.
