Hackers have the ability to take control of nearly 500,000 Chrysler cars, this was recently demonstrated when they when two hackers, Cgarlie Miller and Chris Vasalek were able to take control of a Jeep Cherokee on the highway.
The hackers took control of a Jeep Cherokee which was being driven by Wired’s Andy Greenberg, they were able to control the vehicle and bring it to a stop on the highway.
The car was being controlled from a remote location which was 10 miles away from the vehicle, this is what happened.
As the two hackers remotely toyed with the air-conditioning, radio, and windshield wipers, I mentally congratulated myself on my courage under pressure. That’s when they cut the transmission.
Immediately my accelerator stopped working. As I frantically pressed the pedal and watched the RPMs climb, the Jeep lost half its speed, then slowed to a crawl. This occurred just as I reached a long overpass, with no shoulder to offer an escape. The experiment had ceased to be fun.
