Both the new Motorola Moto 360 and the LG G Watch will run Google’s Android Wear, and now Google has provided more information for developers on this new version of Android.
The videos below are designed to show developers how easy it is to get their applications ready for Android Wear, and if apps already have notifications, then they will be easy to make work with Android Wear.
Android Wear and Notification Listener Service
Android Wear will make use of the Android listener service for notifications, this was introduced to Android with the launch of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The listener service allows apps to receive notifications and display them on the wearable device. This means that developers can easily extend their existing apps to support Android Wear without having to rewrite their notification logic. For example, if an app already sends notifications to the user’s phone, those same notifications can be displayed on the smartwatch with minimal additional coding.
Developer Resources and Tools
Google has made a variety of resources available to developers to help them get started with Android Wear. These resources include detailed documentation, sample code, and video tutorials. The goal is to make it as easy as possible for developers to create apps that provide a seamless experience across both smartphones and wearables. One of the key features of Android Wear is its ability to provide contextual information to the user. For example, a fitness app can use the sensors in the smartwatch to track the user’s activity and provide real-time feedback.
Developers can also take advantage of Android Wear’s voice recognition capabilities. This allows users to interact with their apps using voice commands, making it easier to perform tasks without having to touch the screen. For instance, a messaging app can allow users to dictate their messages, which can then be sent without needing to type on a small screen.
