Last week we saw some photos of the teardown of the new Google Pixel 3 XL from iFixit and now the company has released a video showing us what is inside Google’s latest flagship smartphones.
In the video below we get to look at the design and the hardware on the new Google Pixel 3 handset, the device comes with Android 9.0 Pie.
Display and Design
As a reminder, the Pixel 3 comes with a 5.5 inch display that features an 18:9 aspect ratio and comes with a FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The Pixel 3 XL, on the other hand, boasts a larger 6.3 inch display with a QHD+ resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels. Both displays are OLED, which means they offer vibrant colors and deep blacks, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The design of the Pixel 3 series is sleek and modern, with a glass back that supports wireless charging and a matte finish that provides a comfortable grip.
Hardware and Performance
Inside both devices is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which was one of the most powerful processors available at the time of the Pixel 3’s release. This ensures that both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL can handle demanding applications and multitasking with ease. The handsets come with 4GB of RAM, which is sufficient for most users, although some power users might find it limiting compared to other flagship devices that offer 6GB or even 8GB of RAM.
Storage options for the Pixel 3 series include 64GB and 128GB. While these options should be adequate for most users, it’s worth noting that the Pixel 3 does not support expandable storage via microSD cards. This means that users will need to rely on cloud storage solutions like Google Drive if they require additional space.
Camera Capabilities
Both devices feature a single 12 megapixel rear camera for photos and videos. Despite the trend of multiple rear cameras on flagship smartphones, Google has managed to deliver exceptional photo quality with a single lens, thanks to its advanced software processing and machine learning algorithms. The rear camera is capable of capturing stunning photos in various lighting conditions, and it supports features like HDR+ and Night Sight, which significantly improve low-light photography.
On the front, there is a dual camera setup with two 8 megapixel cameras for selfies. One of these cameras has a wide-angle lens, allowing users to capture group selfies without the need for a selfie stick. The front cameras also support features like portrait mode and face retouching, making it easier to take flattering selfies.
Additional Features
The Pixel 3 series comes with several additional features that enhance the overall user experience. One of these is the Active Edge feature, which allows users to squeeze the sides of the phone to activate Google Assistant. This provides a convenient way to access the assistant without having to unlock the phone or use voice commands.
Another notable feature is the Titan M security chip, which provides enhanced security for the device. This chip helps protect sensitive data, such as passwords and encryption keys, making the Pixel 3 one of the most secure smartphones on the market.
The Pixel 3 also supports fast charging and wireless charging, making it easy to keep the device powered throughout the day. The battery life is decent, with the Pixel 3 offering a 2915 mAh battery and the Pixel 3 XL featuring a larger 3430 mAh battery. Both devices should comfortably last a full day of moderate use.
The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are impressive flagship smartphones that offer a great combination of design, performance, and camera capabilities. While they may not have the most RAM or the highest storage options, their software optimization and additional features make them a compelling choice for many users.
