It seems that many manufacturers are now focusing on creating a perfect smart watch. Samsung is expected to release its Galaxy Gear smart watch on September 4 with rumors about Apple iWatch circulating on the internet as well. Now, it appears as if Google has a Nexus smart watch in the pipeline as well.
You may remember a company that goes by the name of WiMM who tried entering the watch market by creating its own smart watch known as WiMM One. In the summer of 2012, the company stopped selling watches and mentioned that they entered into an exclusive, confidential relationship with a company.
During the summer of 2012, WIMM Labs entered into an exclusive, confidential relationship for our technology and ceased sales of the Developer Preview Kit.
At the time of closure, many publications speculated that Apple may have taken over the company to work on its iWatch but it appears to be incorrect. GigaOM reports that the company has been acquired by none other than Google. Some of the employees have listed WiMM as their employers while a few changed it to Google. Interestingly, a Google spokesman also confirmed about the acquisition on Friday.
Many manufacturers are trying to enter the smart watch market. Samsung execs already confirmed that we will see Samsung Galaxy Gear, which would compete with Apple’s alleged iWatch. Sony also unveiled its smartwatch, Liveview but it didn’t get the same attention as Galaxy Gear. It might be too soon to conclude that Google is working on one but all the rumors point us in that direction.
What do you think? Will we see a Nexus smart watch anytime soon?
