A new Android media centre designed to transform your HDTV into a smart TV or enhance your Android PC has been introduced by Diamond Multimedia, and is now available for $120. For a limited time, a $20 discount offer is also currently available via their Facebook page.
The Diamond Multimedia AMP1000 Android Media Centre is equipped with an 800 MHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor supported by 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. However, 3.5GB of that storage is unusable due to operating system requirements.
Features and Specifications
The AMP1000 Android Media Centre will currently ship with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread installed, but Diamond Multimedia has plans to soon roll out an upgrade to Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system very shortly, via a download. This upgrade will bring a more modern interface, improved performance, and access to newer apps that require ICS.
The media centre can connect to your home network via either a wireless or cable connection, providing flexibility depending on your home setup. For those who need Bluetooth support, an option is available for an additional $10. This can be particularly useful for connecting wireless peripherals such as keyboards, mice, or game controllers, enhancing the overall user experience.
Even with Gingerbread installed, the media centre can access Google Play and support Adobe Flash Player. This means users can download a wide variety of apps, games, and streaming services directly to their media centre, turning their HDTV into a versatile entertainment hub.
Practical Applications and User Experience
The Diamond Multimedia AMP1000 Android Media Centre is designed to be user-friendly and versatile. For instance, families can use it to stream movies and TV shows from popular services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. Gamers can enjoy Android games on a larger screen, while tech enthusiasts can explore various apps and utilities available on Google Play.
Moreover, the media centre’s ability to support Adobe Flash Player ensures that users can access a wide range of web content, including videos and interactive websites that still rely on Flash. This feature is particularly useful for educational purposes, as many educational websites and online courses use Flash-based content.
The device’s compact size and sleek design make it easy to integrate into any home entertainment setup. It can be placed discreetly next to your HDTV or mounted behind it, keeping your living space clutter-free. The included remote control provides convenient navigation, but users can also connect a wireless keyboard and mouse for a more traditional computing experience.
In terms of performance, the 800 MHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and 512MB of RAM are sufficient for most media streaming and basic computing tasks. However, users should be aware that the limited storage space may require the use of external storage solutions, such as USB drives or microSD cards, for additional apps and media files.
Overall, the Diamond Multimedia AMP1000 Android Media Centre offers a cost-effective solution for upgrading your HDTV or Android PC. With its planned upgrade to Android 4.0 ICS, flexible connectivity options, and access to Google Play, it provides a comprehensive entertainment experience for users of all ages.
