Gamers who were hoping to get their hands on Diablo III this quarter, will be disappointed to hear that Blizzard has now announced that the game will be delayed further, and a first-quarter release is now looking out of the question.
Within the announcement Blizzard suggests that there is still a lot of work to be carried out, and hints that the work may be within the game’s core systems. Which would certainly delay the highly anticipated sequel to the Diablo series games much longer than if Blizzard just needed to squash a few bugs before launch.
Diablo III’s game director Jay Wilson explained to the Batlle.net community:
“While working on Diablo III we’ve been called out for messing around with systems too much, that the game is good as-is and we should just release it. I think that’s a fair argument to make, but I also think it’s incorrect. Our job isn’t just to put out a game, it’s to release the next Diablo game,”-“No one will remember if the game is late, only if it’s great. We trust in our ability to put out a great game, but we’re not quite there yet. In addition to finishing and polishing the content of the game we’re continuing to iterate on some of the core game systems.”
Let’s hope that Blizzard is able to make the alterations they need to the core files, without too much more of a delay. But hey it’s already been under development for the last 12 years, so what’s another few months difference going to make. Let’s hope it makes all the difference and Blizzard is able to release a fantastic solid Diablo sequel later this year. As more information becomes available as always we will keep you updated.
