Google has developed a cool Chrome Racer experimental game that showcases what the future of mobile gaming could hold for the masses, and revealed multiplayer gaming across multiple screens across multiple smartphone devices running Chrome for mobile.
The Chrome Racer game Google has created demonstrates the new technology and as you put more smartphones next to each other the racing track expands across the multiple screens. Watch the video after the jump to learn more about the Racer Chrome Experiment project and see it in action.
Innovative Technology Behind Chrome Racer
Google explains: “We needed all the speed and graphics performance of Chrome—squeezed into a mobile device. Thanks to its multi-process architecture, GPU-accelerated rendering, and V8 JavaScript engine Chrome for Android and iOS puts the pedal to the metal for small screens.
Where supported, Racer’s soundtrack reacts to each driver’s movements—accelerating, coasting, careening, and colliding. The Web Audio API dynamically mixes Giorgio Moroder’s symphony of sound in realtime as you race.
Rendering our custom tracks and fluid car movements required a solid JavaScript vector library. Paper.js can handle the path math without getting lapped.”
The Chrome Racer game is a testament to the advancements in mobile browser technology. By leveraging the capabilities of Chrome, Google has managed to create a seamless and engaging multiplayer experience that can be enjoyed on the go. The game’s ability to synchronize across multiple devices in real-time is particularly impressive, showcasing the potential for future mobile games to offer more interactive and social experiences.
How to Experience Chrome Racer
You can give Chrome Racer a go now by visiting the website, and making sure that you have Chrome for Mobile loaded on to your smartphone. Enjoy!
To get started, simply gather a few friends with smartphones, each equipped with Chrome for Mobile. As you place the devices next to each other, the game will automatically detect the additional screens and expand the racing track accordingly. This innovative approach not only enhances the gaming experience but also encourages social interaction and collaboration among players.
The game’s soundtrack, composed by the legendary Giorgio Moroder, adds another layer of immersion. The Web Audio API ensures that the music dynamically responds to the players’ actions, creating a more engaging and responsive gaming experience. Whether you’re accelerating down a straightaway or navigating a tricky turn, the soundtrack will adapt to your movements, making each race feel unique and exciting.
In addition to the technical achievements, Chrome Racer also highlights the potential for mobile games to become more than just solitary experiences. By enabling multiplayer functionality across multiple devices, Google is paving the way for a new era of mobile gaming that is more social, interactive, and immersive.
