I love it when Lego geeks create something out of the bricks that can actually perform a task. All I have ever created using Lego are cars or other simple objects that are unable to move under their own power. A Lego builder named Jason Allemann has created a Lego construct using Mindstorms EV3 hardware that is able to build using Lego bricks.
The Lego creation is called the Bricasso and it is able to scan color drawings made in Lego scale using the EV3 color scanner and then create those scans using real Lego 1×1 plates. The entire Bricasso machine is made using Lego. The scanned images are stored inside the EV3 controller allowing multiple mosaics to be made.
The device can hold up to 450 Lego plates in nine different colors and the are gravity fed to the print head. It’s a long process to build a single small Lego mosaic, but it is very cool to see the finished product. I love Lego creations that can build something on their own. Larger pieces of artwork can be made by breaking the prints down into smaller bits that can fit inside the Bricasso.
