BlackBerry recently confirmed that the BlackBerry Priv would be getting the Android Marshmallow update in May and now the company has launched an Android Marshmallow beta program.
Owners of the Priv can now sign up to test out Android 6.0 Marshmallow on their handsets and try out all of the new features that are coming in the update.
Details of the Beta Program
The beta program is an exciting opportunity for Priv owners to get a sneak peek at the new features and improvements that Android Marshmallow will bring to their devices. By participating in the beta program, users will be able to provide valuable feedback to BlackBerry, helping to ensure that the final release is as polished and bug-free as possible.
If you’re one of the people who wants to see Marshmallow on your PRIV, we have great news. We’re kicking off the first beta program of the Android OS in BlackBerry Beta Zone. Starting today, we’re inviting PRIV owners to sign up now to participate in our Beta Zone program and contribute to testing Android 6.0 on PRIV.
PRIV Beta Zone participants will test Android 6.0 Marshmallow by doing a wireless software update to a new Android 6.0 beta build and submit Bug Reports using an included bug reporting app when bugs or inconveniences are discovered.
New Features in Android Marshmallow
Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings a host of new features and improvements to the Priv. Some of the key enhancements include:
1. App Permissions: Marshmallow introduces a new permissions model that gives users more control over the data and features that apps can access. Users can now grant or deny permissions on a case-by-case basis, rather than having to accept all permissions at once when installing an app.
2. Doze Mode: This new feature helps to extend battery life by putting the device into a deep sleep state when it is not being used. Doze Mode reduces background activity and network access, helping to conserve power and extend the time between charges.
3. Google Now on Tap: This feature provides contextual information and assistance based on the content currently displayed on the screen. By pressing and holding the home button, users can access relevant information, such as restaurant reviews, movie details, and more, without having to leave the app they are using.
4. Fingerprint Support: Marshmallow includes native support for fingerprint sensors, allowing users to unlock their devices and authenticate transactions with a simple touch. This feature enhances security and convenience for Priv owners.
5. Improved App Links: With Marshmallow, app links are more intuitive and reliable. When a user clicks on a link, the operating system can now determine the best app to open it with, providing a smoother and more seamless experience.
6. Automatic Backup and Restore: This feature ensures that app data and settings are automatically backed up to Google Drive, making it easier to restore them when switching to a new device or after a factory reset.
By participating in the beta program, Priv owners will have the opportunity to test these new features and provide feedback to BlackBerry, helping to ensure that the final release is as smooth and bug-free as possible.
