Apple recently released their iOS 11.3 software update. This is the largest update Apple has released since they launched iOS 11. According to a recent report this latest update may kill off aftermarket displays on the iPhone 8.
The news comes in a report from Motherboard who have revealed that a number of people who have had third party displays installed on their iPhone 8 are having issues with it since iOS 11.3.
This is something that happened last years with the iPhone 7, Apple released a further software update that ended up fixing the problem. The new issue is affecting iPhone 8 handsets that have been repaired with an aftermarket display.
Users who have had their display replaced by a third party with non Apple parts are reporting that touch functions no longer work on their handset. This has only happened since the release of iOS 11.3 and these peoples handsets were working fine before the release.
We doubt that this is something that Apple has done intentionally, it is more likely a glitch which they will resolve in a future software update. The issue is something to do with the microchip that powers the display.
As yet there are no details on when we may see another software update from Apple to fix this issue with third party displays. If you have had this problem with your iPhone, please leave a comment below and let us know.
