Apple has released their iOS 11.3 software update, the software is now available as an over the air update for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The company recently released the software for their new iPad and now it is being released to everyone.
This is the company’s largest update to their mobile OS since the release of iOS 11, and it brings a wide range of new features to Apple devices.
New Animoji and ARKit 1.5
The update comes with four new Animoji, which include a dragon, bear, lion, and skull. These new Animoji add more fun and expressive options for users who enjoy sending animated messages. Animoji have been a popular feature since their introduction, allowing users to animate their facial expressions using the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone X and later models.
Additionally, iOS 11.3 introduces ARKit 1.5, an updated version of Apple’s augmented reality platform. ARKit 1.5 allows developers to create more immersive AR experiences by recognizing and placing virtual objects on vertical surfaces like walls and doors. It also supports higher resolution for the real-world camera view, making AR experiences more realistic and engaging.
Battery Management and Health Features
One of the most significant additions in iOS 11.3 is Apple’s new battery management feature. This feature provides users with detailed information about their battery’s health and performance. It lets you know if your battery needs to be replaced and whether your device’s performance is being throttled due to a degraded battery. This transparency is a response to previous controversies where Apple was found to be slowing down older iPhones to prevent unexpected shutdowns due to aging batteries.
To access the battery health information, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Here, you can see the maximum capacity of your battery and whether it is operating at peak performance. If your battery’s health has significantly degraded, you will see a recommendation to replace it.
Messages in iCloud and Business Chat
iOS 11.3 also introduces support for Messages in iCloud, a feature that allows users to store their iMessages in iCloud, freeing up space on their devices. This means that all your messages will be synchronized across all your Apple devices, and if you delete a message on one device, it will be deleted on all devices. This feature is particularly useful for users who have multiple Apple devices and want to keep their messages consistent across all of them.
Another notable feature is Business Chat, which allows users to communicate directly with businesses through the Messages app. This feature is designed to make customer service more convenient, enabling users to schedule appointments, make purchases, and get customer support without leaving the Messages app. Business Chat is initially available with select partners, including Discover, Hilton, Lowe’s, and Wells Fargo.
Health Records and Data Privacy
iOS 11.3 also brings improvements to the Health app with the introduction of Health Records. This feature allows users to access their medical records from participating healthcare providers directly within the Health app. Users can view lab results, immunizations, medications, and more in one place, making it easier to manage their health information.
Apple has also made strides in data privacy with iOS 11.3. The update includes a new privacy icon that appears when Apple requests your personal information. This is part of Apple’s ongoing commitment to transparency and user privacy, ensuring that users are aware of when and why their data is being collected.
You can download the update on your iPhone or iPad by going to Settings > General > Software Update. If you install the update and notice any other new features, please leave a comment below and let us know.
