We have been hearing rumors over the past few weeks that Apple is about to launch a new Apple TV, the Apple TV 3. The device was first discovered months ago with the J33 reference number.
Now the guys from 9 to 5 Mac have discovered that the Apple TV with the J33 reference number will retail for $99, which is the same price as the existing Apple TV, although the existing model now appears to be sold out in almost all of Apple’s retail stores.
Expected Features and Improvements
We don’t as yet have any information on what the new Apple TV will be capable of, although we can expect the device to come with a faster processor and we suspect it will be capable of full HD video in 1080p. The current Apple TV model supports 720p video, so an upgrade to 1080p would be a significant improvement for users who have been waiting for higher resolution streaming capabilities.
Additionally, there are speculations that the new Apple TV 3 might include enhanced connectivity options such as improved Wi-Fi capabilities, possibly supporting the latest Wi-Fi 6 standard for faster and more reliable streaming. Another anticipated feature is the inclusion of Bluetooth 5.0, which would allow for better connectivity with other Apple devices and accessories.
Potential Software Enhancements
On the software side, the new Apple TV 3 is expected to come with an updated version of tvOS, Apple’s operating system for its TV devices. This could bring a range of new features and improvements, such as a more intuitive user interface, enhanced voice control through Siri, and better integration with other Apple services like Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and Apple Fitness+.
There is also talk about the potential for new apps and services that could be exclusive to the Apple TV 3. For example, Apple might introduce new streaming services or exclusive content deals that would make the device even more appealing to consumers.
Moreover, the new Apple TV 3 could potentially support more advanced gaming features, turning it into a more versatile entertainment hub. With the rise of cloud gaming services, Apple might leverage its powerful ecosystem to offer a competitive gaming experience on the Apple TV 3.
We will have more details on the new Apple TV 3 later today, when the device is officially announced along with the new iPad HD or iPad 3.
