Apple is rumored to be investing in Taiwan’s AU Optronincs Corp, the company is rumored to be producing AMOLED display for future models of the Apple iPhone.
According to a recent report by Focus Taiwan, Apple is looking to invest in the company rather than purchase it outright.
Au Optronics has been making AMOLED display for over 10 years and owns a larger patent portfolio for displays that Apple may be interested in.
According to the reports, Apple is likely to transform AUO into an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) screen supplier for production of future iPhones, and if AUO agrees with Apple’s fund injection plan, the Taiwanese firm could see its sales and gross margin grow significantly.
Apple is rumored to start using AMOLED display in its future iPhone models in either 2017 or 2018, the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus which will launch this year are not expected to feature these displays.
