According to the Japanese newspaper, Nikkei, Toshiba is investing a total of $1.9 billion in a new LCD plant which will supply apple with small scale high resolution displays.
It seems that Apple is also investing in the factory, although the amount of investment by Apple is unknown as yet, and the new factory will double Toshiba’s production of small high resolution displays.
At the moment Toshiba are producing around 8.5 million of these displays per month, and this new plant will double that. The current Retina Display used in the iPhone 4 is produced by LG for Apple, and according to the newspaper Toshiba will be producing new displays for future iPhone versions.
