Nintendo has announced that their new 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro, which has been exclusively available only in Japan since its launch, will now be arriving in the US tomorrow and will be available to purchase for $20.
The 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro is the second iteration of Nintendo’s supplemental analog stick, and follows on from the original GameStop-exclusive Circle Pad Pro made available alongside Resident Evil: Revelations.
Features and Compatibility
“The Nintendo 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro is a comfortable cradle that holds the Nintendo 3DS XL system while adding an analog Circle Pad on the system’s right side. The attachment also adds additional shoulder buttons to give it a feel more akin to traditional console controllers.
It is designed as an optional accessory and is compatible with select titles, including Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Resident Evil Revelations, Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance], METAL GEAR SOLID 3D Snake Eater, and Kid Icarus: Uprising. Note: The Nintendo 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro is not compatible with the Nintendo 3DS.”
The 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro is now available to purchase from the Nintendo store for $19.99.
Enhanced Gaming Experience
The Circle Pad Pro significantly enhances the gaming experience by providing a second analog stick, which is particularly beneficial for games that require dual analog control schemes. For instance, in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, players can use the second analog stick to control the camera more fluidly, making it easier to track and hunt monsters. Similarly, in Resident Evil Revelations, the additional stick allows for more precise aiming and movement, which is crucial in a survival horror setting.
Moreover, the added shoulder buttons mimic the layout of traditional console controllers, making the transition between handheld and console gaming more seamless. This is especially useful for players who are accustomed to the feel of a console controller and find it challenging to adapt to the handheld’s default controls.
The Circle Pad Pro is also designed with ergonomics in mind. The cradle provides a more comfortable grip, reducing hand fatigue during extended gaming sessions. This is a significant improvement for gamers who spend hours playing their favorite titles and need a more comfortable and natural grip.
Market Reception and Future Prospects
The initial reception of the Circle Pad Pro in Japan was positive, with many gamers appreciating the added functionality and improved control it offered. The decision to bring the accessory to the US market is likely a response to the demand from American gamers who have been eagerly awaiting its release.
Looking ahead, the Circle Pad Pro could pave the way for more innovative accessories for the Nintendo 3DS XL and other handheld consoles. As game developers continue to create more complex and immersive titles, the need for enhanced control schemes will only grow. Accessories like the Circle Pad Pro demonstrate Nintendo’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its gaming community.
The Nintendo 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro is a valuable addition for any serious gamer looking to enhance their handheld gaming experience. Its compatibility with popular titles, ergonomic design, and additional control options make it a must-have accessory. With its arrival in the US market, more gamers will now have the opportunity to experience the benefits of this innovative device.
