Cherrypal has added a new netbook to their range, which will cost just $99, the Cherrypal Africa Netbook, which is named after Cherrypal’s recent community building initiative in Ghana.
The Cherrypal Africa Netbook features a 7 inch LCD display with a resolution of 800 x 480, and is powered by a 400MHz processor. Memory comes in the form of 256MB, and there is 2GB of flash storage. This compact and affordable netbook is designed to cater to the basic computing needs of users, especially in developing regions where access to technology is limited.

At Cherrypal, we’re extremely conscious of the so-called ‘digital divide’,” said Max Seybold, the company’s founder. “We’re constantly looking for ways to bridge that gap, and the Cherrypal Africa is a huge step in the right direction. Plus, everyone who has tried it has absolutely loved it!
Operating System and Battery Life
The Cherrypal Africa comes with either Linux or Windows CE, providing users with a choice of operating systems based on their preferences and needs. Linux is known for its stability and security, making it a suitable option for educational purposes and basic computing tasks. Windows CE, on the other hand, offers a familiar interface for users who are accustomed to Microsoft’s ecosystem.
According to Cherrypal, the built-in Lithium battery will give you up to four hours of usage. This battery life is sufficient for light tasks such as browsing the internet, checking emails, and word processing. However, users should be mindful of the limited battery capacity when planning their activities.
Connectivity and Additional Features
Other specifications include built-in 802.11 b/g WiFi, allowing users to connect to wireless networks for internet access. The inclusion of Ethernet ensures that users can also connect to wired networks, providing flexibility in various environments. The netbook features an 86-key QWERTY keyboard, which, despite its compact size, offers a comfortable typing experience.
The Cherrypal Africa Netbook is equipped with one USB 2.0 port and one USB 1.1 port, enabling users to connect peripheral devices such as external storage, mice, and keyboards. Additionally, there is an SD/MMC card slot, which allows for easy expansion of storage and transfer of files. Built-in speakers provide basic audio output, making it possible to watch videos and listen to music without the need for external speakers.
The Cherrypal Africa Netbook is now available to order for just $99. This price point makes it an attractive option for individuals and organizations looking to provide affordable computing solutions in underserved communities. The netbook’s affordability and basic functionality make it an ideal tool for educational purposes, helping to bridge the digital divide and empower users with access to information and technology.
The Cherrypal Africa Netbook represents a significant step towards making technology accessible to everyone, regardless of their economic background. By offering a low-cost, functional device, Cherrypal is contributing to the global effort to close the digital divide and promote digital literacy. The netbook’s modest specifications are balanced by its affordability, making it a practical choice for basic computing needs in various settings.
