When Apple [AAPL] announced their new iPad, we didn’t see anything on the UK Apple website until a couple of days later. Now, Apple has updated their site and confirmed when the iPad will be available in the UK.
Although Apple still hasn’t released any pricing information for the UK as yet, the iPad will probably be slightly more expensive in the UK. In the US, the base model will retail for $499. This would translate to £315 at today’s exchange rate, but the UK version will probably retail for around £399 for the base model.

Availability and Carrier Details
Apple has confirmed that the WiFi Apple iPad will be available in the UK sometime in March, and the WiFi and 3G iPad sometime in April. There are still no details as yet on which mobile phone carriers in the UK will offer the iPad, and whether it will be offered for a subsidized cost with a mobile data contract. This lack of information has led to much speculation among potential buyers and tech enthusiasts alike.
In the US, carriers like AT&T and Verizon have been known to offer subsidized pricing for devices with data contracts, and it remains to be seen if UK carriers like O2, Vodafone, or EE will follow suit. The potential for subsidized pricing could make the iPad more accessible to a broader audience, especially those who are already customers of these carriers.
Potential Impact on the UK Market
The introduction of the iPad in the UK is expected to have a significant impact on the tablet market. With its sleek design, intuitive interface, and robust app ecosystem, the iPad is poised to attract a wide range of users, from tech-savvy individuals to professionals and students. The device’s versatility makes it suitable for various tasks, including browsing the web, watching videos, reading e-books, and even performing work-related activities.
Moreover, the iPad’s entry into the UK market could spur competition among other tablet manufacturers, leading to innovations and potentially lower prices for consumers. Companies like Samsung, Microsoft, and Google may introduce new features or adjust their pricing strategies to compete with Apple’s offering.
Another aspect to consider is the potential for educational use. Schools and universities in the UK may adopt the iPad for classroom use, leveraging its educational apps and interactive capabilities to enhance learning experiences. This could lead to bulk purchases and special pricing for educational institutions, further driving the iPad’s adoption.
We will keep you guys updated as soon as we find out more details of the UK pricing and availability of the Apple iPad.
