Google has added a new feature to their Google Wallet app on Android and iOS, the ability to track the shipping progress of your purchases through Google Wallet.
This new feature is only available in the US at the moment, and it is only available on Android devices running Android 4.0 and above and iOS devices running iOS 6.0 and above.

Once you activate Orders in Google Wallet, you’ll be able to see any receipts sent to your Gmail right in the Google Wallet app. We’ve also worked with primary package carriers in the US so that when your order status is updated, you’ll get notified of the update through Wallet. So whether your order is shipped, out for delivery, or delayed, you’ll never wonder about the status of your order.
How to Activate and Use the New Feature
To activate this new feature, users need to go into their Google Wallet app and enable the “Orders” option. This will allow the app to automatically pull in receipts from your Gmail account. Once activated, the app will start tracking your purchases and provide real-time updates on the shipping status. This integration with major US package carriers ensures that you receive timely notifications about your order status, whether it’s shipped, out for delivery, or delayed.
For example, if you order a new gadget from an online retailer, the receipt sent to your Gmail will be detected by Google Wallet. The app will then track the shipment and notify you at each stage of the delivery process. This eliminates the need to manually check tracking numbers on different carrier websites, streamlining the entire process.
Benefits and Future Prospects
The introduction of this feature brings several benefits to users. Firstly, it centralizes all your purchase information in one place, making it easier to manage and track your orders. Secondly, the real-time notifications ensure that you are always up-to-date with the status of your deliveries, reducing the anxiety and uncertainty that often accompanies online shopping.
Moreover, this feature could pave the way for further enhancements in the Google Wallet app. For instance, future updates might include the ability to track international shipments, integration with more carriers, or even predictive analytics to estimate delivery times more accurately.
Google has said that this new service will be available in the US this week, they have not given any details on when the feature will be available outside of the US. However, given the global reach of Google Wallet, it is likely that the feature will eventually be rolled out to other countries, providing a seamless shopping experience for users worldwide.
The new shipping progress tracking feature in Google Wallet is a significant enhancement that adds convenience and efficiency to the online shopping experience. By integrating with Gmail and major US package carriers, Google Wallet ensures that users are always informed about the status of their orders, making online shopping less stressful and more enjoyable.
