It seems we are having a bit of a stop motion day here on Geeky Gadgets, with my previous article covering the World’s largest stop-motion movie using Post-it notes. This article covers a stop motion movie that has been created using the 11,000 square-foot Pendine Beach in South Wales (UK) and a Nokia N8 smartphone. Again, after the break is the final stop animation movie together with the making of movie. Enjoy!
A cherry picker was used together with three Nokia N8 smartphones to capture the frames required to make the movie, using high quality .jpgs that were then all stitched together to create the final one and half minute movie.
The Making of the World’s Largest Stop Motion Movie
The whole film process took 5 days and required a much larger team than when the World’s smallest stop motion movie was created in a darkened studio with a small team, again with a Nokia N8 smartphone. The logistics of creating a stop motion movie on such a large scale were immense. The team had to contend with the natural elements, ensuring that the beach was clear and the weather was cooperative. Each frame had to be meticulously planned and executed, with the team working tirelessly to ensure that every detail was perfect.
Challenges and Innovations
One of the significant challenges faced during the production was the sheer size of the canvas. Pendine Beach provided an expansive 11,000 square-foot area, which meant that the team had to be incredibly precise with their movements and placements. The use of a cherry picker was crucial in capturing the high-angle shots needed to encompass the entire scene. The Nokia N8 smartphones, known for their impressive camera capabilities at the time, were instrumental in capturing high-quality images that could be seamlessly stitched together.
The team also had to innovate in terms of how they managed the natural environment. For instance, they had to work around the tides and ensure that their work was not washed away. This required careful planning and timing, as well as a bit of luck with the weather. The result, however, was a stunning piece of art that showcased the capabilities of the Nokia N8 and the creativity of the team.
The process of making the World’s largest stop motion video using a Nokia N8 on a beach is shown below.
The final product is a testament to what can be achieved with creativity, teamwork, and the right technology. The use of the Nokia N8 smartphones in such an innovative way highlights the potential of mobile technology in filmmaking. This project not only set a record but also inspired many to explore the possibilities of stop motion animation on a grand scale.
