iPhones are notoriously expensive when they first launch, especially seeing as how a new model seems to launch every year nowadays. However, once the newer model comes out, older models of the iPhone are typically rather inexpensive. Most people waiting for a price drop on the iPhone 5 would normally have to wait for the 5s, but Walmart is hoping to help people stay up-to-date while making plenty of money in the process.
Walmart recently cut the permanent prices for the iPhone 4s and 5 to $39 and $129 respectively. This is a major cut from their previous prices of $90 and $190. Keep in mind, these prices are for the 16GB models and require a contract with AT&T, Verizon or Sprint. Trying to buy the iPhone without a contract, or trying to buy one of the models with more storage, will cost you quite a bit more.
Why is Walmart cutting the prices so soon? If trends keep up, the iPhone 5s is right around the corner, and sales have lulled a bit since the iPhone 5 was released. So it could be Walmart’s way of getting rid of excess stock or noticing the pattern and getting ahead of it for maximum profit returns. Whatever the reason, now more people than ever before can afford to upgrade to the iPhone 4s or 5.
Congratulations iPhone users! I’m going back to my Android now…
