A company called Viking Modular has unveiled a very odd storage device called the SATADIMM. The SATADIMM is a storage device that looks more like DDR3 RAM than a conventional SSD.
The device is made to slip into a normal 240-pin DDR3 slot on a mainboard with 1.5V of power. Once in the slot the SATADIMM connects to the SATA port on the mainboard via a normal SATA cable and gets power form the RAM slot.
The SATADIMM is designed to take up the least space possible and still provide 30,000 IOPS performance. The SATADIMM is offered in 50GB, 100GB, and 200GB capacities.
