Today Twitter has snapped up the popular Tweetdeck Twitter application for $40 million reports CNN. The acquisition has been rumoured for some time with Techcrunch announcing the deal earlier this month for $50 million. But both Twitter and Tweetdeck have been keeping quite about the details and the negotiations.
Negotiations were finalised on Monday for $40 million and papers signed allowing Twitter to now add the Tweetdeck application to their other app purchases such as Tweetie and the partnership created with photo add-on TwitPic.
While negotiations were taking place Tweetdeck 2.0 has released a complete rebuilt of their application from the ground up to provide the fastest and slickest possible. All the same service are still available in the new Tweetdeck 2.0 version but extra focus has been put into designing the application to run exceptionally fast.
