Sprint and Boost Mobile have announced they will be getting a new smartphone just in time for your summer water activities. The phone is called the Hydro Edge and comes from Kyocera. The big feature of the smartphone is that it’s water resistant and can be submerged in water up to 3.28 feet deep for 30 minutes without damage.
That means this summer if you take the smartphone to the pool and accidentally drop in the water, as long as it’s shallow end you’ll probably be just fine. That also means that should you spill a glass of water or other liquid on the device you don’t have to worry you’ll be out-of-pocket for a brand-new smartphone. The device features a four-inch touchscreen and runs Android 4.1 for the operating system.
The smartphone uses a 1 GHz dual-core QUALCOMM Snapdragon processor and uses smart it receiver technology to improve audio quality in noisy environments. The phone has a five-megapixel rear camera that features led flash and the ability to record video. The phone is designed for the no contract offerings on Boost Mobile where it will be able to use the $55 Android Monthly Unlimited plan offering nationwide talk, text, and picture messaging. Sprint and Boost Mobile are offering the official pricing for the device just yet saying that pricing details will be available closer to launch. I’d wager the phone is going to be in the $100 range.
