Sony has unveiled the world’s first curved screen LED backlit TV. Don’t get confused between this and the curved screen OLED TVs on the market, they use completely different tech. Sony says that the curved LED TV, called the S990A, is curved to help improve viewing angles.
The viewing angles are 178° vertically and horizontally. The TV is significantly cheaper than a curved OLED models with a sticker price of $3999.99 on pre-order. Sony expects to ship the TV on October 27 and it has a 65-inch screen.
The TV supports 3-D content using passive glasses and promises a dynamic contrast ratio of about 1,000,000 to 1. The TV also has an integrated sound system that provides virtual 5.1 surround sound. Sony also promises lots of technology to improve colors and black reproduction to provide the best image quality possible.
