Yesterday Sony officially announced the new PS Vita, formerly known as the Sony NGP, and it will be available in two different versions, a WiFi only model and a WiFi and 3G model.
It looks like the WiFi and 3G PS Vita will be sold exclusively through AT&T in the US, and no doubt you will have to sign up to a mobile data contract to purchase the 3G model. There are no details on how much this will cost as yet, but it is expected that AT&T will offer various data plans to cater to different usage needs.
The WiFi only PS Vita will retail for $249.99, whilst the WiFi & 3G version will retail for $299.99. However, it is still unclear if this will be the final price when it is available with AT&T or if they will offer it at a subsidized price. Subsidized pricing could make the device more affordable, but it would likely require a commitment to a long-term data plan.
Features and Specifications
The Sony PS Vita comes with a 5-inch multitouch OLED display, which promises vibrant colors and deep blacks, enhancing the gaming experience. The OLED technology is known for its energy efficiency and superior display quality, making it a great choice for a handheld gaming console.
In addition to the impressive display, the PS Vita is equipped with two cameras, one on the front and one on the back. These cameras can be used for augmented reality games, video calls, and taking photos or videos. The inclusion of a multitouch pad on the back of the console adds another layer of interaction, allowing for more complex and immersive gameplay mechanics.
The PS Vita also features two analog sticks, which is a significant improvement over the single analog stick found on the PSP. This addition makes it easier to control games that require more precise movements, such as first-person shooters and action-adventure games.
Game Library and Connectivity
One of the most exciting aspects of the PS Vita is its game library. Sony has promised a strong lineup of games from both first-party and third-party developers. Titles such as “Uncharted: Golden Abyss,” “Wipeout 2048,” and “LittleBigPlanet” are expected to be available at launch, showcasing the console’s capabilities and providing a variety of gaming experiences.
The PS Vita also supports cross-platform play with the PlayStation 3, allowing players to continue their gaming experience on the go. This feature is particularly appealing for gamers who want to maintain their progress in games without being tied to their home console.
Connectivity is another strong point for the PS Vita. The WiFi model allows for online multiplayer gaming, downloading games and updates, and accessing the PlayStation Store. The 3G model takes this a step further by providing connectivity on the go, ensuring that players can stay connected even when they are away from a WiFi hotspot. This is particularly useful for features like location-based gaming and social networking through the PlayStation Network.
As soon as we get some more information on how much the Sony PS Vita 3G will be with AT&T, we will let you guys know. The anticipation for this new handheld console is high, and it will be interesting to see how it performs in the market against other portable gaming devices.
