Earlier this month Sony started taking preorders for its new PlayStation TV games console, and today the new hardware has officially launched for $99 in the US.
PlayStation TV allows owners to stream a wide range of PlayStation 4 games from the PS4 system to your PlayStation TV via Remote Play over a local Wi-Fi or wired connection.
As well as providing access to a 100’s of games including PlayStation Vita games, many classic games PS One and PSP titles and more, says Sony. Watch the promotional video below created by Sony to learn more about the new PlayStation TV games console and see it in action.
“Introducing the PlayStation TV system, a sleek and compact console with a universe of PlayStation games available for stream, download, and play. Extending the capabilities of the PlayStation 4, PlayStation TV can be used as a second console in your bedroom for PS4 remote play and streaming PS3 games from PlayStation Now.
PlayStation TV is an easy way for gamers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy playing games together. PlayStation TV makes the ideal companion to PS4, enhancing the connectivity of the console and providing a second gaming station for an attractive price.”
“Released in Japan and Asia in November 2013 as PlayStation Vita TV, the system has since continuously evolved through software updates and content enhancements. Adopting the same chip sets and system software as the PS Vita, PlayStation TV has a 6.5 x 10.5 cm ultra slim size – the smallest of any PlayStation platform that connects to a TV.
“In response to the demands from users in Europe and the PAL region, SCEE will introduce the system under the new name and colour, and will deliver entertainment experiences only possible on PlayStationTV.”
The PlayStation TV console is now available to pre-order in the UK for £85 and will be launching on November 14th 2014, just in time for the holiday season.
