To mark the start of the New Year Sony has this week revealed sales figures for its latest next-generation PlayStation 4 games console, revealing that the Sony PS4 console has now passed a staggering 18.5 million unit sales worldwide as of January 4th, 2015.
Sony originally launched their new PlayStation 4 games console back in November 2013 and at launch the PS4 was the fastest selling console ever in the UK.
Unfortunately Microsoft has not yet released their sales figures for the same period, to do a comparison and exactly see who is winning the console wars. But back in November 2014 Yusuf Mehdi, Xbox corporate vice president of marketing, strategy and business revealed that the Xbox One games console had sold 10 million units worldwide to its retailers.
Sony has also revealed that 4.1 million of those PS4 sales were made during the period from November 23rd 2014 through to January 4th, 2015. As well as revealing that Sony PlayStation Plus subscriptions have now passed 10.9 million as of January 2nd 2015.
