The Pebble smartwatch that’s taking Kickstarter by storm and breaking all previous pledge records, amassing a huge $8 million and counting in pledges as of today. Has this week announced its first partnership with Runkeeper. Runkeeper offers a health and fitness service via smartphone applications and currently has more than 10 million users.
In August Pebble is hoping to release it very own software development kit (SDK) for developers to be able to communicate with the wrist worn smart watches and incorporate it into their applications. Jason Jacobs, CEO of RunKeeper explains a little more about their partnership with Pebble:
“Making the RunKeeper app accessible from Pebble is another step towards making fitness tracking simple for our users.”-“People don’t just want to track their fitness activities, they want to do so in the most convenient way possible, and you can’t beat the form factor of a smart watch.”
After the launch of the SDK Pebble is also looking to launch a watchapp directory, which will be used to distribute all applications created for the new Pebble smartwatch.
