OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei announced that their new OxygenOS and also CyanogenMod 12S, both of which are based on Android Lollipop, will not be released until March.
@rajarshi_10 We released an L alpha a while ago, but a more stable build (OxygenOS & CM12S) will need to wait until March. Sorry for delay!

We have previously heard that the new OxygenOS from OnePlus would be released sometime in February, but both versions will now be released sometime next month.
Understanding the Delay
The delay in the release of OxygenOS and CyanogenMod 12S has been a topic of much discussion among OnePlus One users. The company had initially promised a February release, but unforeseen challenges have pushed the timeline to March. Carl Pei, in his tweet, mentioned that while an alpha version of the Lollipop update had been released earlier, a more stable build required additional time for refinement and testing. This delay, although disappointing for some users, underscores the company’s commitment to delivering a polished and reliable update.
What to Expect from OxygenOS and CyanogenMod 12S
OxygenOS and CyanogenMod 12S are both highly anticipated updates for the OnePlus One. OxygenOS is OnePlus’s own custom ROM, designed to offer a clean and fast user experience with a focus on performance and battery life. It aims to provide a near-stock Android experience, with a few additional features and optimizations unique to OnePlus devices.
On the other hand, CyanogenMod 12S is the latest iteration of the popular CyanogenMod custom ROM, which has been a favorite among Android enthusiasts for its extensive customization options and performance enhancements. Based on Android Lollipop, CyanogenMod 12S brings a host of new features, including a refreshed Material Design interface, improved notifications, and better battery management.
Both updates are expected to bring significant improvements to the OnePlus One, enhancing the overall user experience and ensuring that the device remains competitive in the ever-evolving smartphone market.
Community Reactions and Expectations
The OnePlus community has been eagerly awaiting these updates, and the delay has sparked a mix of reactions. While some users have expressed frustration over the postponed release, others appreciate the company’s dedication to ensuring a stable and bug-free update. The OnePlus forums and social media channels have been buzzing with discussions about the potential features and improvements that OxygenOS and CyanogenMod 12S will bring.
OnePlus has a reputation for listening to its user base, and the feedback from the community has likely played a role in the development process. By taking the time to address any issues and fine-tune the updates, OnePlus aims to meet the high expectations of its users and maintain its reputation for delivering quality software.
As soon as we get more details on the exact launch date of CyanogenMod 12S and OxygenOS for the OnePlus One smartphone, we will let you guys know. Stay tuned for further updates and be prepared for an enhanced OnePlus One experience with the upcoming Android Lollipop-based updates.
