During Apple’s media event yesterday during which they unveiled the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones. Apple also unveiled a new addition to their range of hardware device in the form of the Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch has been rumoured for some time and will now be released as three separate models, the Watch, Sport and Edition with prices starting from $349 when it becomes available in early 2015.
The Apple Watch continually checks against the definitive global time standard to provide users with a time that is accurate to 50 milliseconds. The Watch is also loaded with a new custom designed user interface that can be navigated using the “Digital Crown” on the right side of the Watch together with a single button underneath. Rotating the Digital Crown allows you to zoom and scroll nimbly and precisely through the Watch user interface.
The screen of the Apple Watch is also equipped with Apple’s new Force Touch technology that uses tiny electrodes around the flexible Retina display to recognise the difference between a light tap and a deep press.
On screen alerts provide users with information on messages, phone calls and mail, and the Apple Watch connects to your iPhone 5, 5S or iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to provide a variety of features that use the wireless and GPS technology on your iPhone. You can also use the new Apple smartwatch to make calls using the built in speaker and microphone.
The internal battery of the Apple Watch will provide a days worth of life and can be recharged using the provided charging system that combines Apple’s MagSafe technology with inductive charging.
On the rear of the watch Apple has added sensors that are capable of reading your heart rate and more and combine with fitness applications to provide details of your activity.
The full range of Apple Watches are fitted with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal watch faces and are available in tow sizes a with either a 38mm or 42mm watch face. Apple explains a little more :
“The Apple Watch collection features highly polished stainless steel and space black stainless steel cases. The display is protected by sapphire crystal. And there’s a choice of three different leather straps, a link bracelet, a Milanese loop and a strap made from high-performance fluoroelastomer.”
The new Apple wearable device is powered by a custom-designed chip which includes many subsystems into one compact module. “Configuring an entire computer system on a single chip is an industry first and represents a singular feat of engineering and miniaturisation.” Apple explains a little more about the New Apple Watch Sport :
“The Sport collection cases are made from lightweight anodised aluminium in silver and space grey. The display is protected by strengthened Ion-X glass. And the matching fluoroelastomer strap comes in five different colours.”
Apple explains a little more about the New Apple Watch Edition :
“The Edition collection features six uniquely elegant expressions of Apple Watch. Each has a watch case crafted from 18-carat gold that our metallurgists have developed to be up to twice as hard as standard gold. The display is protected by polished sapphire crystal. And an exquisitely designed strap provides a striking complement.”
