Yesterday Apple announced its latest smartphones, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, and now we have all the specifications on the smaller of the two handsets.
The iPhone 6 measure 138.1 mm by 67mm by 6.9mm thick and the device weighs in at just 129 grams, it is equipped with a 4.7 inch Retina HD display that has a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels at 326 pixels per inch.
The display on the handset is an LED backlit IPS display and it comes with a contrast ratio of 1400:1, it also features a 500 cd/m2 max brightness.
Under the hood of the new iPhone 6 is Apple’s latest 64-bit mobile processor, the Apple A8 which is designed to produce 25 percent improved performance over the A7, the device is also said to have a 50 percent improvement in graphics performance, and it comes with Apple’s new M8 motion coprocessor.
The cameras have been updated in the latest version of the iPhone, there is a new front facing FaceTime Camera which comes with a backside illumination sensor, improved face detection and the ability to record HD video in 720p.
Apple has also updated the rear camera on the handset, and it comes with an 8-megapixel iSight camera with 1.5µ pixels, the camera comes with Auto Focus and also Focus Pixels, there is also auto HDR, improved face detection, panorama and a burst mode.
The new 8 megapixel camera on the iPhone 6 came record full HD video in 1080p at either 30 or 60 frames per second, there is also a slo-mo video mode which can record slow motion video at either 120fps or 240fps.
The handset also comes with a new fingerprint sensor and Apple’s TouchID software, which allows you to unlock the device with your finger.
Apple also announced the launch of a new mobile payment system with the iPhone 6, this is called Apple Pay and it will be available on both models of the handset.
There are three storage options on the new iPhone, 16GB, 64GB and 128GB, and the handset will be available in three colors, gold, silver and space gray.
The new iPhone 6 will be available on and off contract, if you take out a new two year contract with the major carriers, then the 16GB model will be available for $199, the 64GB model for $299 and the 128GB model $399.
If you want to buy the new iPhone 6 without a contract from the carriers, the handset will cost $649 for the 16GB model, $749 for the 64GB model and $849 for the 128GB model.
Apple will put the new iPhone 6 up for pre-order this Friday the 12th of September, the handset will go on sale in Apple stores, carrier stores and other retailers on Friday the 19th of September.
