We have been waiting to find out some actual sales figures for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 devices, although the company is yet to announce any official figures, and now Microsoft’s CEO has said that sales of Windows Phone 7 devices are lower than expected.
“We haven’t sold quite as many as I would have liked in the first year,” Ballmer said, speaking at the company’s financial analyst meeting.
Microsoft has quite a bit of work to do to make Windows Phone as popular as other mobile platforms like Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS, although with the release of Windows Phone 7 Mango expected shortly, along with a range of new devices, this should generate more interest in the platform.
Also Nokia partnering with Microsoft is bound to help Microsoft increase sales of Windows Phone devices, the first Nokia Windows Phone 7 Mango smartphone is expected to be released before the end of the year.
