It has been some time since dual-SIM smartphones came into being. What will your reaction be if I tell you that Triple-SIM handsets will soon become a reality? Shocked, right? MediaTek, in collaboration with LG, announced the 3G Triple-SIM technology for Android smartphones.

The triple-SIM technology will allow users to use three SIMs cards in a single device that can be used to make calls, send messages, transmit data and remain in standby mode without draining excessive battery.
Dual-SIM handsets may not be very popular in the US but they have a growing international market. There are many manufacturers and Chinese vendors who are making use of this dual-SIM technology, which has become a big success in low-cost and mid-range smartphone markets.
According to MediaTek,
In many emerging markets, multi-SIM support has become an absolute requirement. By creating a comprehensive total solution packed with premium features and advanced technologies, MediaTek is not only catering to end-user needs, but also attracting the attention of the world’s tier-one device makers
Personally, it can be a successful venture if executed properly. In my country of residence, dual-SIM handsets are fairly popular along with other high-end devices. They even provide some decent specifications including quad-core processors and 1GB RAM running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. What do you people think about it?
