Apple has revealed the price of its three new iPhone 11 handsets in the UK and the pricing does not stack up compared to the US pricing. Apple appears to be charging more for each device in the UK than in the US, even when you include the current taxes.
If we look at the iPhone 11 first, this handsets retails for $699 in the US, at the current exchange rate that works out at £565 in the UK. You need to add 20% VAT on top of that which gives a total price of £678.
Apple could have easily charged £699 in the UK for the iPhone 11 but they decided to charge even more, if you want the handset in the UK it will cost you £729, that works out at $901 at the current exchange rate. Apple is charging an extra £51 in the UK for the iPhone 11 based on the current exchange rate
Apple has done the same thing with the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 11 Pro starts at $999 in the US, that works out at £808 at the current exchange rate. You also need to add VAT onto this giving a total price of £969. Apple is charging a total of £1049 for the iPhone 11 Pro in the UK, that is £80 more than the US equivalent based on the current exchange rate. Translate this back into dollars with the current exchange rate, Apple is charging $1,297 for the iPhone 11 Pro.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max retail for $1099 in the US, at the current exchange rate this works out at £889 at the current exchange rate, you then need to add 20% VAT onto that price, giving a total price of £1067. Apple is charging £1,149 for the iPhone 11 Pro Max, this is £82 more than the US equivalent price. If you convert this back into US dollars, Apple is charging $1,421 for the iPhone 11 Pro Max in the UK.
The iPhones are already expensive devices without Apple charging extra to UK and European consumers based on the US pricing of the handsets. When you add in the VAT for the UK, Apple is charging between £51 and £82 more for each of the iPhone models.
