After previously being made available to preorder during the summer months of 2018 the new Intel NUC mini PC systems equipped with 28 watt Coffee Lake processors are now available to purchase in a couple of different configurations. For example the NUC8i5BEK barebones mini PC powered by an Intel Core i5-8259U processors supported by Intel Iris Plus 655 graphics is now available to purchase priced at $390 from online retailer Newegg or Amazon priced at just over $400.
To recap the mini PC systems can be equipped with up to 32GB of dual-channel DDR4-2400 RAM and include Thunderbolt 3 – USB Type-C port, 4 x USB 3.1 Type-A ports together with a HDMI port. Connectivity is provided by support for wired Ethernet and wirelessly via 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0.
Internally the mini PC is equipped with a M.2 slot for PCIe NVMe or SATA solid state storage although the Intel NUC range requires that you provide your own operating system ( although some systems do allow you to choose a Windows operating system) and RAM depending on your needs and budget. If you require more processing power the NUC8i7BEH comes equipped with a Core i7-8559U processor and internally offers a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD in addition to the M.2 slot for solid state storage and is priced around $485.
