Hyundai has pulled the wraps off a new concept car that will be on display at the SEMA show in Las Vegas from November 5 through the 8. The car is an aftermarket version of the Veloster Turbo envisioned as a time attack racecar for nighttime courses. The car has the nickname “Yellowcake” thanks to the custom yellow paint job.
Custom Paint and Exterior Features
The yellow paint is a custom-developed color created by Hyundai partner EGR with help from PPG and a company called Barry’s Speed Shop. This vibrant hue is not just for show; it’s designed to stand out during nighttime races, ensuring the car is as eye-catching as it is fast. Since the car is night racing themed, it also has a roof-mounted LED light bar and custom headlights. These lighting enhancements are crucial for visibility during night races, providing both functional illumination and an aggressive aesthetic.
The car also has a full roll cage and special coilover suspension. The roll cage is an essential safety feature, designed to protect the driver in the event of a crash, while the coilover suspension allows for precise handling and control, which is vital for time attack racing where every millisecond counts.
Performance Upgrades and Interior Features
Under the hood, the stock 1.6-liter turbocharged engine has been tweaked to produce an impressive 250 hp. This significant boost in power is achieved through various modifications, including a high-performance turbocharger, upgraded intercooler, and a remapped ECU. These enhancements ensure that the car can deliver maximum performance on the track.
The car also has oversized brakes, which are essential for handling the increased power and ensuring the car can stop quickly and safely. The special racing exhaust not only improves performance by reducing back pressure but also gives the car a distinctive, aggressive sound that matches its racing pedigree.
The exterior is further enhanced with a special body kit that includes aerodynamic components designed to reduce drag and increase downforce. These modifications help the car stick to the track, improving both speed and handling. Other touches include lightweight racing wheels and high-performance tires, which are crucial for maintaining grip during high-speed maneuvers.
Inside, the car features a custom interior that includes racing seats and racing harnesses. These seats are designed to keep the driver securely in place during aggressive driving, while the harnesses provide additional safety. The interior also includes a stripped-down, race-focused dashboard with essential gauges and controls, ensuring the driver has all the information needed at a glance.
In addition to these features, the car is equipped with advanced telemetry systems that allow the driver and pit crew to monitor the car’s performance in real-time. This data can be used to make adjustments during the race, ensuring the car is always performing at its best.
Overall, this concept car is a testament to Hyundai’s commitment to innovation and performance. By combining cutting-edge technology with a focus on safety and aesthetics, Hyundai has created a vehicle that is not only fast and powerful but also visually stunning and incredibly safe. Whether you’re a racing enthusiast or just a fan of high-performance cars, this Veloster Turbo concept is sure to impress.
