Developers, makers or hobbyists looking for a development board capable of running Linux may be interested in the new HiFive Unleashed board. Which is currently available to back via the Crowd Supply crowdfunding website. The open source and fully customisable 64-bit, Linux-capable system-on-chip (SoC) platform. Is the world’s first RISC-V-based, Linux-capable development board and is now available to back for $999 with worldwide shipping expected to take place during June 2018.
Features of the HiFive Unleashed development board include a SiFive Freedom U540 SoC supported by 8 GB DDR4 with ECC, Gigabit Ethernet port, 32 MB quad SPI flash from ISSI, microSD card for removable storage and FMC connector for future expansion. The Board measures just 120 mm x 90 mm in size but if you included the power button which protrudes from the front of the board this adds 9 mm to the size creating a form factor of 129 mm x 90 mm. The foundation of the HiFive Unleashed board is the Freedom U540 SoC:
