Even though the Harry Potter franchise is on its last legs when it comes to movies and books, there’s no limit to how much you can extend the Harry Potter universe with a well-crafted MMO. And that’s exactly what Warner Bros. are planning to do, going by the pottermore.com teaser website that just popped up out of nowhere. Well, we don’t know about the well-crafted part yet.
To be perfectly honest, not even the MMO part is rock solid info, but there is the matter of the site’s trademark page: “Providing multiple-user access to a global computer information network; providing on-line chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among users in the field of general interest; providing on-line communications links which transfer the web site user to other local and global web pages; providing on-line facilities for real-time interaction with other computer users concerning topics of general interest.”
The Potential of a Harry Potter MMO
Sound MMO-y enough for you? The potential for a Harry Potter MMO is immense. Imagine being able to explore the vast and magical world of Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, and beyond. Players could choose their houses, attend classes, learn spells, and embark on quests that delve into the rich lore of the Harry Potter universe. The social aspect of an MMO would allow fans to interact with each other, forming alliances and rivalries just like in the books and movies.
Lord Of The Rings Online makers Turbine has also been rumored to be working on a Harry Potter MMO a few years ago, and JK Rowling’s YouTube page is currently showing a countdown which expires on the 23rd of June. Shouldn’t that be a Scribd page, JK Rowling?
What Could We Expect?
If the rumors are true, what could we expect from a Harry Potter MMO? For starters, the game could feature a detailed character creation system, allowing players to create their own witches or wizards. The game world could be expansive, including iconic locations such as Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, and even the Ministry of Magic.
Quests could range from attending classes and learning new spells to battling dark wizards and uncovering hidden secrets. The game could also feature a robust crafting system, where players can brew potions, create magical artifacts, and even care for magical creatures.
The multiplayer aspect would be a significant draw, with players able to join forces to tackle challenging dungeons or compete in magical duels. Seasonal events and updates could keep the game fresh, introducing new content and storylines that expand the Harry Potter universe even further.
The possibilities are endless, and if done right, a Harry Potter MMO could become a beloved addition to the franchise, offering fans a new way to experience the magic of J.K. Rowling’s world.
