Google is offering 2GB of free storage on Google Drive, the company is running the offer for Safer Internet Day, which is today.
In order to get your 2GB of free Google Drive storage, you will need to run a security checkup on your Google account to make sure everything is secure.
How to Perform the Security Checkup
The security checkup process is straightforward and user-friendly. To start, log into your Google account and navigate to the security checkup page. The checkup will guide you through several steps to verify your account’s security settings. These steps include:
1. Reviewing your recovery information: Ensure that your recovery email and phone number are up-to-date. This information is crucial for regaining access to your account if you ever get locked out.
2. Checking your connected devices: Google will show you a list of devices that have recently accessed your account. Verify that all the devices listed are ones you recognize.
3. Reviewing account permissions: This step involves checking which apps and websites have access to your Google account. Revoke access to any that you no longer use or trust.
4. Enabling two-factor authentication (2FA): If you haven’t already, Google strongly recommends setting up 2FA. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password.

After you’ve gone through the checkup successfully, you’ll see three green checkboxes (see below) that confirm you’re eligible for the free storage and, more importantly, that you’ve taken steps to enhance your online safety. We’ll be granting the storage automatically to everyone around 28 February 2015 and we’ll send you an email when your adjustment is complete.
Benefits of Enhanced Security
Completing the security checkup not only grants you 2GB of free Google Drive storage but also significantly enhances the security of your Google account. Here are some additional benefits:
– Protection against unauthorized access: By reviewing and updating your security settings, you reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your account.
– Peace of mind: Knowing that your account is secure can give you peace of mind, especially if you store sensitive information on Google Drive.
– Improved account recovery options: Keeping your recovery information up-to-date ensures that you can quickly regain access to your account if needed.
The security check takes about two minutes to complete, and it is designed to ensure that you are using the maximum security on your Google account. You can find out more details at the link below.
